Vanguard barely beat Dunnellon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Knights' pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers a 10-0 shutout on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Carlee Dodge made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Dodge was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Cadence Abbott was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Mia Donken, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Vanguard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dunnellon only posted a batting average of .150.
The win got Vanguard back to even at 8-8. As for Dunnellon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-13.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Vanguard will head out to square off against South Sumter at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Dunnellon, they will venture away from home to take on Weeki Wachee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
