Basketball Recap: Khimya Fullwood's Big Game Can't Quite Lead San Juan over Grand County

San Juan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 56-47 to the Grand County Red Devils. The Broncos were probably out for revenge after losing 66-40 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

San Juan lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Khimya Fullwood, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. Fullwood is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Shumway, who went 5 for 9 en route to 16 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, San Juan was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Grand County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trinity Bryant, who posted 18 points and seven steals. Another player making a difference was Ainsleigh Kasprick, who had 20 points and five rebounds.

San Juan's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Grand County, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

San Juan wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 55-39 victory against Whitehorse on the 22nd. As for Grand County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-46 win against North Sevier on the 24th.
