Baseball Recap: Mercer Has No Trouble Against Iroquois

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Greenville, Mercer was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Iroquois Braves by a score of 11-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The game marked the Mustangs' most dominant win of the season so far.

Jayden Amos was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Amos wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Justin Amos, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Another was Kameron Woods, who scored two runs and stole two bases.

Mercer now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Iroquois, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mercer will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Wilmington at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Greyhounds have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Iroquois, they will face off against Union at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
