Basketball Recap: Libby Blythe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Evansville North over Gibson Southern

Evansville North suffered their closest defeat since January 27th on Friday. They fell just short of the Gibson Southern Titans by a score of 63-60. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Huskies have suffered against the Titans since December 7, 2015.

Evansville North's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Libby Blythe, who posted 16 points and seven rebounds. Addy Gibson was another key player, putting up 12 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Evansville North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Gibson Southern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabby Spink led the charge by dropping a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Spink's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Schnaus, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 15 points and seven rebounds.

Evansville North is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5. As for Gibson Southern, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4.

Evansville North wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 65-25 victory against Evansville Harrison on the 19th. As for Gibson Southern, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-47 win against South Spencer on the 17th.
