Baseball Recap: Bonny Eagle's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Bonny Eagle had lost five games straight , but after bumping their record up to 3-5 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 4-1 win over the Kennebunk Rams. For the Scots, this counts as revenge for the 12-8 victory the Rams walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Gavin Saucier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has become a key player for Bonny Eagle: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Jayden Doughty was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Bonny Eagle's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Lucas Klehn also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Kennebunk, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Kennebunk's side, Brady Stone was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Stone is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Theo Adams, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Bonny Eagle and Kennebunk could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Maine Rankings. The Scots (ranked 76th) will meet Biddeford (ranked fifth) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Kennebunk will challenge Marshwood at 11:00 a.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (62 vs. 17).
