Southeast Kansas Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Aaron Tunstall Dazzles in Field Kindley Loss

Starting off the list is Field Kindley's Aaron Tunstall, who we judged to be the best player in the league this week. Tunstall rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.0 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in November of 2023.

Tunstall must have Mulvane's number; he was a force to be reckoned with the last time he faced them too. Back in September of 2023 (the last time Tunstall saw the Wildcats), he rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.

Jamaal Jackson Delivers Best Effort of Season

Labette County was led to victory by Jamaal Jackson, who turned in his biggest game of the season on Friday. Jackson rushed for 218 yards and three touchdowns, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: he has now rushed for 146 or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

Independence had to have seen this coming; the last time they saw Jackson it was a similar story. Jackson rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown the last time he and the Bulldogs duked it out back in October of 2023.

Trenten Akins Makes It Two for Field Kindley

The second Field Kindley player making an appearance here is Trenten Akins, and for good reason. He made four total tackles (1.0 for loss). He also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Field Kindley is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-4 otherwise.

Pittsburg took down Chanute on Friday, a win that might not have happened without Conner Proffitt's effort. Nobody could stop Proffitt as he rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and also picked up 38 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Pittsburg pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Proffitt's next matchup is against Topeka on Friday, where he'll look to repeat that solid performance.

Nickelson Made His Presence Known in Pittsburg's 41-35 Victory

Keeping Proffitt company is Carsen Nickelson, a fellow Pittsburg player. He rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making ten total tackles and defending a pass.

On the year, Nickelson has averaged 85.8 passing yards per game. That doesn't tell the whole story though: at this point last year, he was only averaging 6.5 rushing yards per game. This year he is averaging 49.83 rushing yards.
