Softball Recap: Coronado Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Coronado extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping their season record up to 11-13 in the process. They never let the Mission Bay Buccaneers get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. This was a revenge game for the Islanders: when they faced off against the Buccaneers back in April, they had to take a 4-1 loss.

Ali Pecus was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jersey Cunningham, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maren Hawley, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coronado was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mission Bay only posted a batting average of .087.

As for Mission Bay, with the defeat, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-5. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Mission Bay's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evie Horton, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base.

As of now, neither Coronado nor the Buccaneers have any future games scheduled.
