Southern Wayne posted their closest win since December 21, 2023 on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past South Johnston 64-61.
Southern Wayne got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayden Hardy out in front who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Hardy also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Christopher Carmon was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, East Wake put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 79-40 win over Smithfield-Selma at home. With East Wake ahead 42-17 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Donovan Majette was a one-man wrecking crew for East Wake as he scored 27 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Malachi Harris, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Southern Wayne's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-10. As for East Wake, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
Southern Wayne took a serious blow against East Wake when the teams last played on January 2nd, falling 92-54. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Southern Wayne was down 39-14.
