Baseball Recap: Petal Drops Season-High Score on St. Stanislaus

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Petal). They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-Chaws on Saturday. The victory was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Nathan Carter looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February.

At the plate, Easton Giger was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dawson Dykes, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Petal was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Petal's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for St. Stanislaus, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Petal will take on Brandon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Petal's pitchers better be ready for this one: Brandon has averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for St. Stanislaus, they will face off against Tylertown at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Tylertown has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.54 runs per game on average), something St. Stanislaus will no doubt try to take advantage of.
