Basketball Recap: Centralia Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Centralia took on Hanover on Friday. The Centralia Panthers took a 65-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hanover Wildcats. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Braylon Meyn continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hanover, going 10 for 16 en route to 26 points and five assists. With that strong performance, Meyn is now averaging an impressive 15.7 points per game. Kadrick Cohorst was another key player, putting up eight points along with six boards and three steals.

Centralia's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-6. As for Hanover, they pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Centralia and Hanover should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. Centralia will challenge Doniphan West at 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday up 160 places (143 vs. 303). Similarly, Hanover (ranked 89th) will meet Valley Heights (ranked 301st) on Tuesday.
