Softball Recap: Bishop Verot Drops Highest Score of Season Against Lakewood Ranch

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop Verot). They blew past the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs 18-1 on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.

Crimson Lawrence made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bishop Verot let McKenna Robbins and Maddie Brady run wild. Robbins went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Brady went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave Brady a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Blexrud, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Bishop Verot kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Bishop Verot's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Lakewood Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.

Coming up, Bishop Verot is taking a road trip to face off against Coral Reef at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 3.2, the Barracudas 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Lakewood Ranch, they will welcome Sarasota at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sailors have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
