Preview: Mattawan Wildcats vs. Lakeshore Lancers
Mattawan is 8-2 against Lakeshore since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Mattawan Wildcats will be home for the holidays to greet the Lakeshore Lancers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mattawan scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 64-31 win over Niles on the road. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mattawan.
It was another big night for Delaney Elsmore, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Mattawan's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlin Ryan, who scored 12 points along with seven steals.
Meanwhile, Lakeshore took their matchup at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 60-26 win over Portage Northern. Given Lakeshore's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Portage Northern is ranked 459th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mattawan's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Lakeshore, their victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1.
Mattawan came up short against Lakeshore when the teams last played back in February, falling 55-51. Can Mattawan avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
