Baseball Recap: Bishop McDevitt Takes a Loss

If Bishop McDevitt was riding high fresh off their 10-0 takedown of Central Dauphin East on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Crusaders fell just short of the Gettysburg Warriors by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday. The Crusaders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 10-6.

Bishop McDevitt saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joel McNaughton, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Bishop McDevitt has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Gettysburg, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 11-6.

Looking ahead, Bishop McDevitt will look to defend their home field on Monday against Oley Valley at 4:15 p.m. As for Gettysburg, they will head out on the road to take on West York Area at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
