Softball Recap: Minisink Valley Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Minisink Valley had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Monticello on Monday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 14-2 win. Considering the Warriors have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Emily Smith looked comfortable as she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Caitlyn Higby was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Ryin Perico was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Minisink Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.

Minisink Valley pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Monticello, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Minisink Valley will welcome Valley Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Monticello, they will host Liberty at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
