Softball Recap: Cherokee Victorious

Cherokee's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Sheffield Bulldogs a 15-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.

Libby Collum made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Layla Gorman was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Haley Stephens, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Cherokee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Cherokee's win bumped their record up to 17-22. As for Sheffield, they dropped their record down to 0-24 with the loss, which was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Cherokee will take on Winston County in a tournament on Friday. As for Sheffield, they will square off against Lexington at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
