Baseball Recap: Hilliard Davidson Continues Home Dominance on Monday

Hilliard Davidson had won four straight at home, but on Monday they bumped their record up to 6-5 to make it five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks a 5-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by exactly five runs.

Not much got past Andrew Sherman, who gave up just six hits to keep Dublin Coffman off the board. Sherman also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hilliard Davidson is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Hilliard Davidson let Johnny DiBlasio and Will Ragland run wild. DiBlasio went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Ragland went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Ragland a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mitchell Davis, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

As for Dublin Coffman, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but Hilliard Davidson's pitchers proved too tough.

On Dublin Coffman's side, they saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Schimming, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases. Those stolen bases were Schimming's first of the season.
