Baseball Recap: Elk Grove Takes a Loss

Elk Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 6-1 to the St. Mary's Rams. The Thundering Herd were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Elk Grove got a good showing from Bryce Engle, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Engle a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

On the hitting side, Elk Grove saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matt Soares, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Soares hit this season.

Elk Grove's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for St. Mary's, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3.

Coming up, Elk Grove will welcome Granite Bay at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Mary's, they will head out to square off against Junipero Serra at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
