Baseball Recap: Porter Takes a Loss

Porter had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-16 to make it five. They lost 12-2 to the Harlingen South Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Tuesday.

Alex Solitaire was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI.

As for Harlingen South, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

On Harlingen South's side, Ryan Porter looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Porter has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Daniel Lopez was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh Ruiz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Porter has already played their next match, a 15-5 defeat against Edcouch-Elsa on the 22nd. As for Harlingen South, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-0 victory against Donna North on the 22nd.
