Softball Recap: Wyoming Valley West Spartans vs. Tunkhannock Tigers

Wyoming Valley West had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-13 to make it 11. They came up short against the Tunkhannock Tigers, falling 14-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 back in April.

As for Tunkhannock, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 17-1. Considering they have won 13 matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Tunkhannock's part, McKenzie Hannon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Hannon has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, MaKenzie Bevan was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Addisyn Waterman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Coming up, Wyoming Valley West will take on Wilkes-Barre at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tunkhannock, they will challenge Horseheads at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
