Basketball Recap: New Paltz Huguenots vs. Spackenkill Spartans
New Paltz was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a hard 41-27 fall against the Spackenkill Spartans. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huguenots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 44-30 back in January.
Despite the loss, New Paltz saw an underclassman step up: freshman Callie Meyer posted four points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.
Leading Spackenkill to victory were Blythe McQuade and Maryclare Parker-Stark. McQuade put up 19 points and seven assists, while Parker-Stark went 7 of 13 on her way to 14 points and six boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which McQuade has scored at least a third of Spackenkill's points.
New Paltz's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Spackenkill, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
New Paltz wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 40-30 loss against Red Hook on the 3rd. As for Spackenkill, they will head out on the road to take on Wallkill at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Spackenkill will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
