Basketball Game Preview: Polk County Wildcats vs. Copper Basin Cougars

Polk County is a perfect 10-0 against Copper Basin since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Wildcats take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Polk County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matches.

Polk County took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 64-56 victory over Sweetwater.

Polk County found their leader in freshman Benjamin Webb, who posted 21 points in addition to six steals and five assists. Webb's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 20 points. Zanten Branham was another key player, putting up 20 points.

Meanwhile, Copper Basin played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 78-34 loss at the hands of Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-22.

Polk County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. As for Copper Basin, they dropped their record down to 6-19 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Everything came up roses for Polk County against Copper Basin in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured an 85-34 win. In that matchup, Polk County amassed a halftime lead of 54-20, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
