Basketball Recap: Houston Math Science & Tech Comes Up Short

Houston Math Science & Tech won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They were dealt a 56-25 defeat at the hands of the Heights Bulldogs. The Tigers were probably out for revenge after losing 32-11 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Leading Heights to victory were Mira Johnson and Jazmyne Gilbert. Johnson dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards, while Gilbert posted 16 points in addition to seven assists and six boards. Johnson is becoming a predictor of Heights' success: when she posts at least ten rebounds the team is 4-2 (and 4-10 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Ramiyah Denson, who had seven points and three steals.

With the loss, Houston Math Science & Tech broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-7. As for Heights, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-12.

Houston Math Science & Tech wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 53-13 defeat against Lamar on the 11th. As for Heights, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-41 loss against Westside on the 11th.
