Softball Recap: Santa Clara Wins Going Away Against Lynbrook

Santa Clara won the last time they faced Lynbrook and things went their way on Friday too. The Bruins put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 23-13 win. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won seven games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Giselle Valdez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and 12 unearned) runs off five hits. Valdez was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Chloe Boyes was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Alexandria Banegas also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Santa Clara always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Santa Clara's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-9. As for Lynbrook, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Santa Clara will welcome Dublin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bruins are facing the Gaels at the right time seeing as the Gaels are stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Lynbrook, they will challenge Saratoga at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
