Basketball Recap: Cesar E. Chavez Comes Up Short

Cesar E. Chavez lost against Heights back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Cesar E. Chavez Lobos were outmatched by the Heights Bulldogs and fell 64-13. The Lobos were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-6.

Leading Heights to victory were Jazmyne Gilbert and Mira Johnson. Gilbert went 9 of 13 en route to 22 points in addition to eight steals and five assists, while Johnson went 8 for 18 on her way to 18 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Gilbert is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last ten games she's played. Emma Syphard was another key player, putting up four points and four steals.

Cesar E. Chavez has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season. As for Heights, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-13.

Cesar E. Chavez will host Lamar at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lamar is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season. As for Heights, they are taking a road trip to challenge Lamar Consolidated at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heights is facing Lamar Consolidated at the right time seeing as Lamar Consolidated is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
