Softball Game Preview: Lee County Yellow Jackets vs. Triton Hawks

The Lee County Yellow Jackets will head out to take on the Triton Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Having struggled with seven defeats in a row dating back to last season, Lee County turned things around against Seaforth on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Hawks as they made off with a 13-7 victory. The Yellow Jackets not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20, 2024.

Meanwhile, Triton came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Golden Bulls get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Hawks have won three matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Berkley Campbell and Kelsey Matthews did most of the damage at the plate: Campbell scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Matthews scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Addie Stanley was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Triton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Triton pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lee County, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Lee County might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Triton in their previous meeting back in March of 2020. Can Lee County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
