Basketball Recap: Bridgeport Takes a Loss

Bridgeport played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 82-54 loss at the hands of the Bellaire Big Reds. The loss continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Big Reds: they've now lost seven in a row.

Despite the defeat, Bridgeport saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaleel Vincent posted 20 points along with six assists and three steals. That was a full 37% of Bridgeport's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Avery Jackson was another key player, putting up eight points and eight rebounds.

Leading Bellaire to victory were Raekwon Pettigrew and Caleb Jewell. Pettigrew dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten boards, while Jewell dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. Jace Violet also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Bridgeport's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Bellaire, their record now sits at 6-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bridgeport will face off against Shadyside at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bridgeport is facing Shadyside at the right time seeing as Shadyside is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Bellaire, they will square off against John Marshall at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
