Softball Recap: Anclote Sharks vs. Fivay Falcons
Anclote extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 16 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-15. They lost 14-1 to the Fivay Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-2 back in February.
As for Fivay, their win ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-12. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 23rd (when they won 20-2).
For Fivay's part, Lily Doane made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Doane has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Wojcik, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. What's more, she posted three runs, the most she's had since back in February. Sofia Torres Gutierrez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Coming up, Anclote will be playing in front of their home fans against Indian Rocks Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
