Basketball Recap: Wheat Ridge Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Wheat Ridge's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Standley Lake on Friday. The Wheat Ridge Farmers walked away with a 70-62 win over the Pomona Panthers. That's more bragging rights for the Farmers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Wheat Ridge had a senior duo take command as Amir Nix dropped a double-double on 18 points and 19 rebounds and Isaac Mccune went 5 of 11 on his way to 17 points and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nix has scored all season. Isaiah Rainalter was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Despite the loss, Pomona still got an impressive performance from Dj Hawkins, who posted 24 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The match was Hawkins' 17th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Morine, who earned 13 points and three steals.

Wheat Ridge's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-7. As for Pomona, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Wheat Ridge didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 76-22 win against Greeley West on the 25th. Pomona has also already played their next match, a 71-45 defeat against Green Mountain on the 29th.
