Softball Game Preview: Tri-County North Panthers vs. Newton Local Indians

Tri-County North is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Newton Local is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Panthers will welcome the Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tri-County North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Tri-County North's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over Mississinawa Valley. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Blackhawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The result came thanks to Kasidi Daugherty's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tri-County North's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Pinion, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Pinion has posted since back in May of 2024.

While Newton Local didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against St. Henry by a score of 10-5 on Monday.

Newton Local is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Tri-County North, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.

Tri-County North took their win against Newton Local in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
