Volleyball Recap: St. Thomas More Academy Gets the Win

St. Thomas More Academy proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by three) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Wayne Christian Eagles 3-2.

St. Thomas More Academy wouldn't go down easily and took Wayne Christian into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-16, 25-20, 24-26, 15-12.

Portia Hale was a one-woman wrecking crew as she had 21 digs and three aces. That's the most aces she has posted since back in October of 2024.

Wayne Christian's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alanna Verme, who had 25 kills, nine aces, and six digs. Hannah Brock was another key player, getting four digs and three aces.

St. Thomas More Academy's win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Coming up, St. Thomas More Academy will venture away from home to take on Rocky Mount Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wayne Christian, they will be taking part in a tournament against Freedom Christian Academy at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.
