Baseball Recap: Whitmire's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Greenwood Christian, Whitmire was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the McCormick Chiefs a 16-0 shutout. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wolverines as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Dalton Williams made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Whitmire is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Williams was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Crue Keller was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brian Steele, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Whitmire always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Whitmire's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for McCormick, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Whitmire will have a chance to go back-to-back against McCormick: the pair will be back at it again later today.
