The Hobbton Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Pender Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Hobbton took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Union with a sharp 20-5 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Aubree McLamb made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. McLamb was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Hobbton let Graci Barefoot and Madison Sinclair run wild. Barefoot scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Sinclair went 1-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. With that strong performance, Barefoot is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Miley McLamb, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Hobbton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Pender waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Eagles 14-4. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by ten runs or more this season.
Charleigh Rivenbark was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Eden Gurganus was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Hobbton's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-8. As for Pender, their record is now 9-3.
Hobbton might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Pender in their previous meeting on Monday. Can Hobbton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
