Basketball Recap: Denver Waldorf Comes Up Short

If Denver Waldorf was riding high fresh off their 46-13 takedown of Victory Prep Academy last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Denver Waldorf Spartans lost 49-24 to the Elbert Bulldogs on Friday. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-6.

When it comes to explaining why Denver Waldorf lost, don't look at Annie O'Meara. Despite the final result, she posted 11 points in addition to six boards and six blocks. O'Meara is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last 12 games she's played.

Melanie Hermes was nothing short of spectacular for Elbert: she went 10-for-17 to rack up 23 points and eight steals. Those 23 points gave Hermes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Paisley Vandergriff, who scored eight points and five steals.

Denver Waldorf dropped their record down to 7-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Elbert, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-12.

Denver Waldorf does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Elbert, they have already played their next matchup, a 44-25 win against Deer Trail on the 24th.
