Basketball Recap: Penn Beats Plymouth for Their Fifth Straight Win

Penn entered their tilt with Plymouth on Tuesday with four consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with a 61-48 win over the Plymouth Pilgrims/Rockies. Given the Kingsmen's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th in Indiana, while the Pilgrims/Rockies are ranked 241st in Indiana), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Penn found their leader in freshman Caleb Coolman, who posted 19 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Alexander Hawthorne was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Penn was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plymouth only seven assists.

Plymouth's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trenton Van Duyne, who went 8-for-12 on his way to 23 points. Those 23 points gave Van Duyne a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Wolfe, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 15 points.

Penn pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points over those games. As for Plymouth, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Penn didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-39 loss against South Bend Riley on the 21st. As for Plymouth, they have also already played their next contest, a 58-57 defeat against Maconaquah on the 22nd.
