Softball Recap: Richlands Snags 12th Victory in Last 13 Games

Richlands won against White Oak on Thursday with two runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Wildcats beat the West Carteret Patriots by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 2-1. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Patriots on Tuesday, they had to take a 4-1 defeat.

Makenzie Goin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Richlands saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jailah Wilson, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Richlands has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for West Carteret, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-4.

Richlands and West Carteret are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Wildcats will take on White Oak at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Richlands' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for West Carteret, they will square off against Croatan at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Patriots 2, the Cougars 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
