Softball Recap: Clarke County Eagles vs. Central Woodstock Falcons
Clarke County had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 8-11 to make it four. They came up short against the Central Woodstock Falcons, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-2 back in April.
As for Central Woodstock, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.
For Central Woodstock's part, Veronica Gordon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Gordon a new career-high. Hadley Witherow also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clarke County will host Millbrook at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pioneers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Central Woodstock, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Rappahannock County at 6:00 p.m.
