Football Recap: Pontotoc Comes Up Short

The matchup between Pontotoc and Shannon on Friday hardly resembled the 21-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Warriors were outmatched by the Red Raiders and fell 65-29. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Red Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Pontotoc lost, don't look at Courtland Pass. Despite the final result, he rushed for 129 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Markavion Jones helped out on the ground, rushing for 101 yards.

Brayden Hooks was his usual excellent self, rushing for 82 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 42 yards and one TD for Shannon. Another player making a difference was Dashaun Clifton, who threw for 173 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 3-2. As for Shannon, their win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Pontotoc will challenge West Point at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Green Wave's defense has only allowed 12.6 points per game this season, so the Warriors' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Shannon, they will take on Houston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Raiders will be up against the Hilltoppers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 40.67 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
