Basketball Recap: Maurice Jefferson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Thomas Jefferson over New Kent

On Friday, the Thomas Jefferson Vikings lost to the New Kent Trojans on the road by a 94-76 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (70), the Vikings still had to take the loss.

Thomas Jefferson's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maurice Jefferson, who posted 19 points. Jefferson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Amari McCall, who put up 17 points.

Will Ross was his usual excellent self, going 8 of 16 en route to 26 points and five steals for New Kent. Ross is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyle Diggs, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Thomas Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for New Kent, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0.

Thomas Jefferson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 62-60 victory against Lancaster on the 28th. As for New Kent, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-61 win against Hanover on the 28th.
