High school girls basketball: Aaliyah Chavez of Monterey notches fourth 1,000-point season

Top-ranked senior dropped 50 in 103-42 victory, bringing career total to 4,389 points

Aaliyah Chavez of Monterey (Lubbock, Texas) topped the 1,000-point mark for the fourth season in a row earlier this week when she dropped 50 in a 103-42 win over Coronado (Lubbock).

Chavez entered Tuesday's game with 994 points on the season and reached 1,000 in the first quarter. She scored 1,001 points as a freshman, 1,020 as a sophomore and 1,324 as a junior.

Monterey is 25-4 this season thanks in large part to Chavez's 35.5 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Her career point total stands at 4,389, good for 24th on the all-time list.

The 5-foot-11 point guard has scored 40 or more 12 times this season and 50 or more twice. Chavez has seven career 50-point games with a career-high of 57 during her junior year in an 80-54 win over Plano.

Chavez has narrowed her final six college choices to South Carolina, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, LSU and UCLA.
