Basketball Recap: Anacostia Indians vs. Coolidge Colts

On Monday, the Anacostia Indians faced the Coolidge Colts in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Anacostia was the victim of a rough 48-23 defeat at the hands of the Colts. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Anacostia in their matchups with the Colts: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, Anacostia still got an impressive performance from LaNiya Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.

Coolidge found their leader in underclassman Josslyn Derricott, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Derricott has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Jaylyn Derricott was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Anacostia dropped their record down to 11-9 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.0 points per game. As for Coolidge, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Anacostia will face off against the Trainers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully McKinley Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 last Monday. As for Coolidge, they will head out on the road to face off against the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Jackson-Reed is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
