Softball Recap: Yough Drops Highest Score of Season Against California

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yough). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the California Trojans a 15-0 shutout on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

J Vay was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. Those doubles were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Anna Lindner was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Odelli, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Yough always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Yough's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for California, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yough will welcome Penn Hills at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for California, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Greene at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Pioneers will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
