Softball Recap: Lago Vista Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Lago Vista entered their tilt with Austin Achieve on Tuesday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They never let the Polar Bears get on the board and left with a 24-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 20-0 back in March.

Winter Callahan was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lago Vista got a massive performance out of Mikayla Vasquez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Vasquez a new career-high. Ellie Helton was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Lago Vista lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more home runs.

Lago Vista's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Austin Achieve, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lago Vista will face off against LBJ Austin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Austin Achieve, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Northeast Early College at 6:00 p.m. on the 11th.
