Baseball Game Preview: Eastern Comets vs. Wabash Apaches

The Eastern Comets will take on the Wabash Apaches at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Eastern is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games.

Eastern had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt North Miami on Saturday. The Comets blew past the Warriors 13-2. Considering the Comets have won 16 matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Wabash waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Chargers. That's two games straight that the Apaches have won by just one run.

Haiden McWhirt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wabash let Keaton Lane and Derek Reed run wild. Lane went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Reed went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Eastern pushed their record up to 24-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Wabash, their win bumped their record up to 11-14.

Eastern might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Wabash in their previous matchup back in April of 2016. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
