Basketball Game Preview: Spring Creek Spartans vs. Dayton Dust Devils

Spring Creek and Dayton are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Spring Creek Spartans will square off against the Dayton Dust Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Spring Creek sitting on eight straight victories and Dayton on four.

Spring Creek is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were the clear victor by an 80-54 margin over Churchill County on Saturday. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 22 points or more this season.

Spring Creek got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Scott Bylund out in front who went 6 for 11 on his way to 19 points. Another player making a difference was Snowdon Bear Williams, who went 8 of 11 en route to 17 points and five boards.

Spring Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Dayton faced Fernley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Dayton walked away with a 51-42 victory over Fernley.

Spring Creek is also on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Dayton, they pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Everything went Spring Creek's way against Dayton in their previous meeting on January 10th, as Spring Creek made off with a 64-42 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spring Creek since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
