Football Game Preview: Starmount Rams vs. Wilkes Central Eagles

The Starmount Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Wilkes Central Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Starmount's defense has only allowed 11.6 points per game this season, so Wilkes Central's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Starmount was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against North Wilkes on Friday. The Rams put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 35-13 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won four in a row.

Jymir Billips had a dynamite game, rushing for 84 yards and a pair of TDs. What's more, he posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in October of 2024.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Starmount was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 218 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive contests.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Starmount's defense and their four sacks. Leading the way was Corey Armstrong with two.

Meanwhile, Wilkes Central played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 42-6 defeat at the hands of Alleghany. Having soared to a lofty 43 points in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

Wilkes Central's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Starmount, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

Starmount was dealt a bruising 44-6 defeat at the hands of Wilkes Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
