Softball Game Preview: Sheridan Yellowjackets vs. Benton Panthers

The Sheridan Yellowjackets will venture away from home to take on the Benton Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Sheridan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.

Sheridan's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Friday's struggle, when Fayetteville hitters got past them. The Yellowjackets took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs on Friday. The Yellowjackets' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Skylar Sterritt was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Marly Lancaster, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Benton faced Beebe in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Panthers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Badgers 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since March 22nd.

The win made it two in a row for Benton and bumps their season record up to 16-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Sheridan, their loss dropped their record down to 14-3.

Sheridan took their win against Benton when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
