O'Connor faced Sunnyslope in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Vikings 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won five in a row.

O'Connor had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 14-25, 25-11, 25-17, 15-11.

Leylah Duran paced O'Connor's offense, picking up 18 kills. Duran got some help from Alayah Krein and her 40 assists. Nikolina Mimic controlled things from the service line, finishing with six aces.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lilli Schmitt, who had 35 assists and ten digs. Schmitt is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 15 or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Easton, who had 17 digs and two aces.

O'Connor's victory bumped their record up to 22-5. As for Sunnyslope, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 19-12.

Coming up, O'Connor will welcome Mountain View at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sunnyslope, they will head out on the road to take on Chandler at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
