Preview: Greeley Quakers vs. John Jay Wolves
The Greeley Quakers will head out on the road to face off against the John Jay Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Greeley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Greeley fell victim to Brewster's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 29-0 defeat at the hands of the Bears. While losing is never fun, Greeley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 308th, while Brewster is ranked 149th).
John Jay can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against Clarkstown North by a score of 28-17.
Tommy Machado was a one-man wrecking crew for John Jay as he rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, and also threw for 187 yards and a touchdown. Luca Duva got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was John Jay's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Austin Omin and his two sacks.
Brewster's win bumped their season record to 3-5 while Greeley's loss dropped theirs to 2-7.
Greeley was dealt a bruising 44-14 loss at the hands of John Jay in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Can Greeley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
