Baseball Recap: Century Comes Up Short

Century fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Red Wing on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wingers by a score of 9-8. The Panthers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Century saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Kelly, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Kelly is becoming a predictor of the Panthers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't).

Century now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Red Wing, they moved to 9-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Century is set to challenge their familiar foe Faribault at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Red Wing will face off against rival Mankato East at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wingers 3.6, the Cougars 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
