Softball Recap: Potomac Senior Comes Up Short

Potomac Senior extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-9 in the process. They came up short against the Woodbridge Vikings, falling 16-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 31-1 back in April.

Byana Hedgecock was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

As for Woodbridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-8 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 20.3 runs.

On Woodbridge's side, Bobbi Tate and Brooke Dutton did most of the damage at the plate: Tate went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI, while Dutton went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave Dutton a new career-high. Hayley Goodman also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Potomac Senior and Woodbridge could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Panthers (ranked 305th) will meet Forest Park (ranked 145th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Woodbridge will square off against Mountain View at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (265 vs. 122).
